Dopo la pausa estiva la Moto2 torna il pista sul circuito di Indianapolis per il turno di prove libere della mattina. Primo in classifica con il tempo di 1’44.518 è Takaaki Nakagami (Italtrans Racing Team) che durante questo mese di stop ha decisamente recuperato la forma fisica dopo la frattura alla clavicola rimediata ad Assen.
Buona sessione di prove per Mattia Pasini (NGM Mobile Racing) secondo davanti a Domenique Aegerter (Technomag carXpert).
Quarto crono per l’italiano Simone Corsi (NGM Mobile Racing) seguito da Pol Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40) e da Nicolas Terol (Mapfre Aspar Team).
Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team) e Johann Zarco (CAme Iodaracing Project) settimo e ottavo precedono il leader del mondiale Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) solo nono.
